The opposition New Patriotic Party has refuted media reports that the office of its General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong, has been ransacked.
The party says the reports and the accompanying photographs are are false.
A statement signed by Communications Director of the party, Nana Akomea, says contrary to the publications, Mr. Agyepong's office at the party headquarters is intact.
There have been widespread reports, backed by photographs, that the NPP General Secretary's office had been ransacked.
An aide to Mr. Agyepong who spoke to JoyNews, Pius Hadzide, said a computer and files had been destroyed.
He said the General Secretary didn't intend to report the matter to the police.
But Nana Akomea said the claims cannot be supported by the facts.
What he said happened is that in the heat of the death of the Upper East Regional Chairman of the NPP, Adams Mahama, after an acid attack, some frustrated party youth attacked and vandalised the office of the secretary to Kwabena Agyepong.
Nana Akomea said the attacks were regrettable and stressed investigations were underway to deal with the perpetrators of the act.
"Reports that the General Secretary’s office was ransacked yesterday, for which pictures are currently being circulated on several social media platforms, are totally and completely false.
"We would like to state, however, that it was the office occupied by the Secretary to Kwabena Agyepong that received some levels of vandalism on the day of Chairman Adams Mahama's death. This unfortunate incident occurred at a time when emotions at the headquarters had reached fever pitch.
"The act is indeed regrettable, and all steps to ensure that the perpetrators of this cowardly act are identified and punished are being undertaken," the statement noted.
