The Local Enterprises and Skills Development Programme (LESDEP) has presented 100 tricycles valued at over GH¢300,000 to beneficiaries drawn from the Greater Accra region. The presentation forms part plans to distribute over 2000 tricycles across the country to support transportation of goods to market centers. Presenting the items, National coordinator of LESDEP Adem Gariba told the recipients that business success depended on commitment and drive and not the acquisition of tools and equipment alone. He therefore, charged the beneficiaries to cultivate a positive maintenance culture to promote the lifespan of the equipment enable them to stay in business and also employ others. Mr. Adem Gariba further advised the beneficiaries to ensure that they pay for the equipment so that others can also benefit. "We believe that with these equipment you will improve your lives and that those who depend on you", he added. The 2,000 tricycles were locally assembled by LESDEP engineers in Ghana underscoring the programme's objective of empowering Ghanaians. Mr. Emmanuel Semaha a beneficiary on behalf of his colleagues expressed his appreciation to government for the LESDEP initiative and to the officials of LESDEP for offering support to local entrepreneurs. He explained that with the tricycle he will deliver water to his neighbours within the Dodowa area and also change his economic status. Each tricycle costs GHc¢3,163 and beneficiaries will be expected to repay under a flexible payment arrangement.
