The Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Lower Manya Constituency in the Eastern region, Mr. Michael Adamtey has said the constituency executives have thrown their weight behind the Member of Parliament MP of the area, Michael Teye Nyaunu, who has openly declared support for the candidature of Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings in the upcoming presidential primaries. Mr Michael Adamtey said the President has "failed" in his Better Ghana agenda insisting that “we are suffering on the ground.” In an interview with Myjoyonline.com on Monday, Mr. Adamtey said “people who suffered for the party in the last elections are getting nothing. The grassroots are those who worked hard for the party to win power.” He denied reports that some party executives in the constituency are angry at comments made by the MP against President Mills, insisting that there is unanimity in the support for Mrs Rawlings. He said President Mills had refused to use the structures of the party and had therefore neglected the constituency executives in his governance decisions and process. Mr. Adamtey said the party needs people who will not neglect the party at the grassroots and will therefore work to ensure the real people who worked to bring the party to power are well catered for. He however said whoever emerges from the July 8 Congress victorious will be supported by the party to build a formidable team for elections 2012. The spokesperson of the executives in the constituency, Mr. Frank Kojo Baah who corroborated the chairman’s position said party supporters in the constituency are all solidly behind the MP who is only echoing the disappointment that supporters feel in the constituency. He said “we are not happy. We promised people and we have failed. What are we going to tell them in the next elections?” Mr. Baah indicated that “if they don’t want to respect the party founder then we will teach them a lesson.” Story by Derick Romeo Adogla/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
