The National Petroleum Authority is hopeful the recent LPG shortage in some parts of the country should improve beginning this weekend. Some consumers have been complaining about their inability to get the product on the market, a situation the Authority blames on delays in supplies owing to the inability of Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) to meet increasing local demand. Spokesperson for NPA Yaro Kasambata has told Joy Business TOR is scaling up production to help bring the situation under control and that there are even assurances they will work over the weekend to speed up distribution. “You should know that the whole of this year we have not had any difficulty with LPG. This was just a minor hitch,… and I think that we have been able to deal with that and the flow of the product will be smoother very soon. I’m sure that in the next coming days, the public should begin to feel the impact of a sustained supply to them. We anticipate that the trickling down effect will take a couple of days but any moment from now the public should begin to see the situation improve. The Tema Oil Refinery has indicated to us that they are going to have to extend their working hours. For example they are going to work on Saturday, they going to work on Sunday just to make up for the time that the country lost in the course of the last couple of days.”
