President John Mahama will Thursday pick forms to contest presidential slot of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Despite being President of the country, the move by Mr Mahama is in line with the party’s constitution.
An official statement from the party said the President is expected to be at the NDC headquarters in Adabrak at 1:00 pm to begin the process to lead the party in next year’s general elections.
John Mahama may be contesting one George Boateng, who shot to the media limelight after picking forms to contest the sitting President.
George Boateng says he was forced to pick forms to attempt unseating Mr Mahama because he was presiding over an abysmal economy saddled with corruption and power crisis.
Boateng’s key campaign message is to legalise cannabis as well as make it exportable to shore up Ghana’s economy.
Although Boateng’s mental status has come under serious scrutiny by party stalwarts such as general secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the former aide of defected ex-First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings said he is of sound mind and fit to unseat Mahama.
The presidential primary is scheduled for November 7, 2015.
