The Magistrate Court 'B' in Sunyani has sentenced a 27-year old cobbler, Kwame Kyereme, to a fine of three million cedis for stealing textbooks worth two million cedis belonging to the Methodist Primary school at Chiraa.
He will be incarcerated in prison in hard labour for nine months if he failed to pay the fine.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Alex Ofosu told the court, presided by Albert Zooga that, last Thursday some members of the community watchdog committee at Chiraa spotted the convict carrying a bag at around 0200 hours.
He said when the members confronted him and searched the bag the books were found in it.
Mr. Zooga ordered that the books be given back to the school.
