The Cantonments Police in Accra are questioning a middle-aged man for allegedly forging the placement slip of his daughter who is due to enter Senior High School this year.
The man, whose name was not disclosed for security reasons, was arrested on Wednesday and later granted police enquiry bail, District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Alex Kumangtani, told the Times yesterday.
He said officials of the Computer School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) of the Ministry of Education on Wednesday brought the man to the police station.
DSP Kumangtani said that during interrogation, the man said he was introduced to an official of the Ghana Education Service who forged the documents for him.
The National Co-ordinator of the CSSPS programme, Mr Samuel Oppong, said on Tuesday that the man came to the office that his daughter had gained admission to Aburi Girls' High School and even though he had paid the admission fees and had been given receipts, the headmistress asked him to verify the authenticity of the results slip at the CSSPS office.
Mr Oppong said he collected the slip from the man and asked him to come back the following day, by which time the checks would have been done.
He said when the slip was forwarded to the Information Technology Unit for verification, it emerged that the slip was forged.
The student was offered admission at the OLA Senior High, Ho and not Aburi Girl's as captured on the slip.
Based on this, the man was arrested and handed over to the police.
Mr Oppong advised the public not to pay money to people who might approach them with the claim that they could assist them get admission for their wards. Such persons should be reported to the police or the secretariat of the CSSPS on 0302783905.
