A 72-year-old Nigerian butcher has used a hammer to kill his grandchild and wife, throwing the Nkolasusua section of Lapaz, close to Achimota in Accra, into a state of shock.
Surprisingly, the perpetrator of the crime turned himself in at the Tesano Police Station where he is being held currently, as the security agents commence investigations into the offense.
The suspected murderer allegedly turned on the duo as they slept, according to a resident- one of those who rushed to the scene following the unexpected action of the man.
Ajani Lasisi, the suspected murderer, allegedly used the hammer on his wife, Sherifa Lasisi and their 12-year-old grand-daughter Natacia Naa Lamley Mills, as they were still in bed Sunday morning.
DAILY GUIDE learnt from a resident that the relationship between the couple had witnessed a downward trend in recent times, resulting in occasional verbal exchanges.
The source said on that fateful day, May 16, 2010, around 5:30 am, residents in the area heard shouts of distress coming from the self-contained two-bedroom accommodation of the couple.
“When we rushed to the room, the grand-daughter and wife were in a pool of blood but not yet dead,” the source said.
As if possessed, he said, the man rushed out of the house shouting repeatedly that he had killed his wife and grand-daughter.
After the action, the man immediately headed for the Tesano Police Station to report the offense, as nearby Good Samaritans rushed the victims to the 37 Military Hospital.
“On the way to the Police Hospital, Natacia Naa Lamely Mills gave up the ghost while the wife, Sherifa, was still breathing,” the source said.
Natacia‘s condition, he noted, was critical with part of her brain matter gushing out of the punctured head.
“When we got to the hospital, Natacia was sent to the morgue for autopsy while Mrs Lasisi writhed in pain.”
Confirming the story, the Tesano District Commander, Chief Superintendent Emmanuel Bossoh, indicated that the 72-year-old man came to the station to report himself after committing the abominable act.
He said, “Immediately the man dashed into the station, he screamed, ‘I have killed my wife and grandchild, please arrest me’.”
The police team, upon arriving at the crime scene, retrieved the hammer used in committing the alleged crime, the commander said, adding that Ajani Lasisi has been charged for murder and would appear in court Wednesday.
