The Institute of Economic Affairs is convinced the boycott of President John Mills in the upcoming Presidential debates will not affect the credibility of the debates. Administrator of the Institute, Jeane Mensah said the rest of the candidates are eager to sell their vision to the electorates. The National Democratic Congress announced its boycott of the 2012 presidential debates, Tuesday, explaining the decision was in conformity with the convention where candidates of incumbent governments do not take part in the presidential debates. The Propaganda Secretary of the party, Richard Quashiga later told Joy News the party had more efficient and potent platforms to sell its candidate than that presented by the IEA. Jeane Mensah said the IEA had officially been notified of the boycott by the NDC and added they were not in any way perturbed. She however described as unfortunate the practice in which opposition candidates always found the IEA credible and took part in their activities but sing a different song when they get into power. She said leaders must be accountable to those they seek to govern and must be ready to subject themselves and their policies to critical scrutiny. Mensah added a good number of floating voters are waiting anxiously to listen to the rest of the candidates who have confirmed their participation in the debates. The IEA, meanwhile had the first presidential encounter with the CPP flagbearer Dr Abu Sakara, Tuesday night. The flagbearer of the PNC Hassan Ayariga is expected to take his turn on July 17.
