A Youth Mentoring Centre (YMC), a non-governmental organization, aimed at restoration and promotion of preventive healthcare for the vulnerable in the Talensi- Naddam District in the Upper East Region was at the weekend inaugurated in Bolgatanga.
The YMC, as parts of its programmes would undertake Youth Envisioning Training Programmes, which would inspire the youth to achieve excellence.
Inaugurating the NGO, the Deputy Upper Regional Minister, Alhaji Awudu Yirimeah, commended the founder and the Project Coordinator of YMC, Mr. Yen Sapak, and said its programmes would complement the Government efforts in developing the country,s human resource base and the Youth Employment Programme.
He said the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) would not relent in its efforts in supporting any progressive youth programmes and would therefore give the YMC all the necessary support to undertake its activities.
Mr. Sapak explained that that the YMC is a youth focused NGO whose vision was to inspire the youth into excellence and stressed that the YMC was of the view that general education was not adequate and called for the need of skills development based on proven success methods.
The inauguration was kicked started of a two-day Strategic Achievement Motivation Youth Development Programme themed " Youth Envisioning Programme 2006"
The facilitators of the two- day workshop were the former Vice- Chancellor of the University for Development Studies (UDS), Professor Saa Dittoh and a renowned a based Lawyer, Yonny Kulendi. The Participants were taken through topics such as; The Awakening the Potential in Us, Strategic Youth Career Development Initiatives, Undertaken Dream Cultivation and Goal Setting and the Development of Entrepreneurial Culture among the Youth.
Earlier on, in a address, the Regional Youth Coordinator, Mr. James Abang-Gos, expressed optimism that the YMC would help address the teaming youth unemployment, streetism, drug abuse, teenage pregnancy, rape and others social vices.
A Netherlands based donor called SIMAVI is sponsoring the Programme with the support from the Felix Foundation of Belgium.
