The Ministry of Health, Ghana has established a working partnership with Hocking College, educational institution based in Nelsonville, Ohio in the United States of America to facilitate the training and skills development of Allied Health and Nursing professionals in Ghana. This happened during a visit to the college by Christopher Beyere, Head of Preservice Training at the Ministry of Health on Thursday June 14, 2012 as part of a student and professional exchange programme beginning July.
The collaboration would witness nurses and allied health professionals visiting Hocking College come July 20 - August 17, 2012 whilst students at Hocking College visit Ghana during the Fall Semester of 2012.
In a telephone interview with Mr. Beyere Thursday 21 June, 2012, he stated that expectations for the visit were met and that in the next 5 years, health training institutions will be equipped with modern and advanced facilities to enhance good health care delivery.
“The student exchange programme will initiate the process of better training health professionals to deliver quality health care to all people”, he said adding that pre-service and service training will receive the needed boost with the exposure of professionals to advanced clinical instructions.
The collaboration and partnership will culminate in a student exchange programme that will engender effective and mutual knowledge sharing between Hocking College and Ministry of Health. The exchange programme has the potential of enhancing the skills of allied health and nursing professionals toward achieving the health-related goals of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2015.
In a related event, The Ohio State University Medical Center has donated medical equipments and supplies to the Ministry of Health to support preservice training of health professionals during a similar visit by Mr. Beyere to the medical center June 15, 2012.
