There is division among members of the Special Investigative Committee probing the alleged sale of presidential seats, after the two Minority members on it threatened to issue a dissenting report.

The five-member committee appeared divided along party lines as it asked for more time to round up its work.

The committee was expected to present its report to the house Thursday but that has been rescheduled to Friday.

This is the second time the presentation of the report has been moved. It was supposed to have been presented to the House last Wednesday.

The Minority Chief Whip raised an issue on the Floor when he heard that the report was likely to be presented today.

According to parliamentary correspondent Joseph Opoku Gakpo, Muntaka Mubarak pulled out the over 200-paged transcription of his witness statement when he appeared before the investigative committee arguing he needed time to study it.

The Asawase MP said portions of his witness will go into the final report and he so he needed seven days to study it.

The Minority had alleged that the Trades Ministry charged unapproved fees from Expat businesses so they could sit close to President Akufo-Addo at an awards ceremony organized by the Millenium Excellence Foundation (MEF).

MEF President Ashim Morton said the President mentioned in the sponsorship package referred to him and not the President of Ghana.

The Minority disputed those claims and pushed for a full parliamentary probe into the matter which they maintained was scandalous.

Speaker of Parliament Prof. Mike Oquaye set up the committee to investigate the allegations.

But already, it appears there will be two reports at the end of the day with the Minority poised to releasing their own report as hinted by Ho Central legislator, Benjamin Kpodo.

During sitting Thursday, the Majority Leader, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu said Minority’s reason for wanting to halt the process is untenable.   

“The Minority Leader informed me that the honourable Dominic Anyine says he wants to write a minority report. That cannot delay if you want to write it, why can’t you tell your colleagues…but you have to tell the Minority Leader?” he said.

He said it is clear something is amiss stressing the Minority has been given the time they have asked for to make their suggestion.
