The Member of Parliament for North Dayi, Ms. Sena Akua Dansua at the weekend appealed to the German government, to assist in the development of the Kpando Traditional Area. Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, (GNA), the MP said history indicates that the Germans administered Kpando as a station under the German Togoland colony. She said, a visit to Kpando by Mr. Horst Kohler, the German President would have won the admiration and appreciation by the people of the Kpando Traditional Area. This would have enabled him to interact with the chiefs and people and also lay wreaths on the German tombs and rekindle the bonds of friendship between the peoples of Kpando and Germany "The Kpando area can boast of forts that were built with stones and bricks, residential houses and administrative offices, adding that the Kpando Todzi forts are still housing prison inmates". Ms. Dansua said oral history has it that Kpando was also a well-known source of slave trade and a transit route for captives from the Salaga market in the Northern Region which resulted in the creation of a slave cave at Vakpo, a town in the Kpando District. "The Germans can therefore, help in the establishment of a museum at Kpando to help boost the numerous tourist attractions in the area, including some German artifacts, tombs, grottos and the beautiful scenery of the Volta Lake at Kpando Torkor. The MP recalled that in the 1997-2000, the German Embassy funded a project that came out with numerous tourist attractions and potentials in the area and suggested that there was the need for some of those projects to get the needed funding to make them viable and of benefit to the people now. The Germans should also help to rehabilitate the numerous outmoded schools and institutions in the area whilst setting up workshops and centres for the teeming youth involved in the handicraft industry.
