Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, Eastern Regional Minister, at the weekend challenged Municipal and District Executives as well as Heads of Department, to engage in backyard farming to feed themselves.
He said the venture would help erase the negative perception by the youth that farming is a punishment.
Mr Ofosu-Ampofo threw the challenge when he launched this year' National Farmers Day Celebration in Koforidua, scheduled for December 3, at Somanya in the Yilo Krobo District.
He said the only way to ensure food security in the country is the growing of more food and called on the citizenry to farm anywhere they find land.
Mr Ofosu-Ampofo said Ghanaians are capable of feeding themselves without external help.
He called on the media to help advertised the farmer's day celebration by showing documentaries and writing features on agricultural production.
The Regional Minister appealed to corporate organisations operating in the region to support the celebrations to make it a success.
He urged agricultural institutions to collaborate with the Regional Co-ordinating Council so make the day a hit.
