AC Milan midfielder Sulley Muntari has been trying to convince team-mate Kevin Prince-Boateng to return to the Ghana national team after the latter prematurely retired from the Black Stars. The news comes just days before new Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah travels to Milan in an attempt to meet the German-born star. Appiah will travel to Milan this week to meet Boateng and Muntari as he attempts to rebuild the Black Stars following their fourth place finish at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations. Even before Appiah arrives, insiders have told GHANAsoccernet.com that Muntari has held several conversations with Boateng about returning to the Black Stars. The two players have built their relationship since Muntari joined Boateng at AC Milan from city rival Inter Milan in a January transfer window. Conversations have been held privately about Boateng’s return to the Black Stars which is said to have softened the German-born player’s stance. The revelation makes Appiah's task easier than before as Boateng was doggedly against the view of return to the fold following an intervention from members of his own family. Boateng shocked Ghana late last year by announcing his decision to quit the Black Stars after just one year with the national team. Many suspect he fell out with previous coach Goran Stevanovic which led to his decision but several appeals from high profile members of the Ghana FA fell on deaf ears. Boateng switched nationality to play for Ghana in May 2010 and after playing for that excellent Black Stars team at the 2010 World Cup he secured a move to AC Milan. Since then he has been reluctant to play for Ghana claiming his travels to Africa affects his health.
