Ghana winger, Christopher Bonsu Baah, has described his remarkable move from third-tier side Shooting Stars to Norwegian top-flight outfit Sarpsborg as nothing short of divine intervention.
In March 2023, the then 18-year-old made the surprising switch from the Accra-based club to Sarpsborg in the Eliteserien.
Reflecting on the transfer, Baah, now 20 and a rising member of Ghana’s senior national team, admitted the move came as a surprise, even though he felt mentally prepared for it.
“I already had the confidence that I was going to get the contract, but how it came about, I can’t explain, it was just the grace of God,” he told Joy Sports.
“I think that moment was mine. It wasn’t because of my confidence. All I can say is that it was God.”
Baah’s stint in Norway was brief but impactful. After just 12 appearances, Belgian Pro League side Genk moved swiftly to secure his services, beating interest from top European clubs.
“It was not only Genk [that wanted to sign me]. Brighton, Leipzig, and many others were interested, but I chose Genk to begin a new chapter,” he revealed.
Baah’s rise has been nothing short of meteoric. Since joining Genk, he has developed into one of Ghana’s most exciting young prospects.
He recently capped a strong season in Belgium with his first two senior appearances for the Black Stars, impressing in friendlies against Nigeria and Trinidad and Tobago.
