Actress Nana Ama McBrown made history on Friday when she picked up four awards, out of eight nominations at the maiden Kumawood awards held at the Miklin Hotel in Kumasi.
Nana Ama won Best/English Actress and Best Actress in Leading Role for the movie Dee Adee Wo No. She also picked up Best Traditional Movie and Best Story for the same movie.
Nana Ama is the writer, director and producer of the movie and goes into the history books for being the first to write a story, produce, direct and star in it and walk away with four awards.
Nana Ama told Myjoyonline.com in an interview; “I am so happy. The movie that won awards, Dee Adee Wo No, I wrote, produced, directored and also acted in it. It means that all the hard work never went in vain.”
She explained that the movie delves into chieftaincy issues, revealing that, “I am particular about traditions. I used to go to the Manhyia Palace during sittings,” most of these issues, she said, discussed during these sittings are mainly about chieftaincy disputes.
This prompted her to let people know about it and also give the general public an insight into how people use dubious means to get chieftaincy titles.
The awards, organised by Kumawood Entertainment and Concept Developers with support from major stakeholders of the film industry, is aimed at awarding actors, actresses, directors, producers, writers, technicians and other personalities in the local film industry in Ghana.
The event was graced by the former Ashanti Regional Minister, S.K. Boafo and it witnessed exciting performances from Pat Thomas, Kwabena Kwabena and D Cryme.
On the night, Kwadwo Nkansah picked up two awards. He won Discovery of the Year and Most Promising Star. Valentina Nana Agyeiwaa popularly known as Afia Shwarzenegger also picked two awards for Best TV Comedian (Female) and Best Picture TV Series for her TV series Afia Schwarzenegger.
Renowned actor, Kofi Adu popularly known as Agya Koo and Rose Mensah popularly known as Kyeiwaa picked up Most Favourite Actor and Most Favourite Actress respectively.
