The National Schools Inspectorate Authority (NaSIA) is cautioning private Pre-Tertiary Education Institutions (PTEIs) that have re-opened their schools for in-person classes to students other than those in JHS 2 and SHS 2 to immediately halt their activities.
According to a statement signed by the Executive Director, Dr. Haggar Hilda Ampadu, the Authority’s recent monitoring duties have revealed that a number of private schools are in clear breach of President Akufo-Addo’s directives “to postpone the remainder of the academic year for all nursery, kindergarten, primary, JHS 1 and SHS 1 students”.
She reiterated that resumption of schools, as announced by the President, is only for SHS 2 and JHS 2 to return to school in order to complete their academic year.
The Authority is also reminding private PTEIs that “the next academic year will resume in January 2021, with appropriate adjustments made to the curriculum, to ensure that nothing is lost from the previous year”.
NaSIA stated in the press release that any PTEI that fails to act in accordance with the directives will be made to shut down indefinitely.
It entreated parents to heed to the President's directive and keep their wards who are not in JHS 2 or SHS 2 at home. The Authority further urged the general public to assist by providing information on any PTEIs in breach of the directives to the NaSIA for the necessary action to be taken.
The National Schools Inspectorate Authority was transitioned from National Inspectorate Board (NIB) on Friday, August 21, 2020, by the new Education Regulatory Bodies Act 2020 (Act 1023).
