Chairman of the governing National Democratic Congress in the Ahafo Ano North Constituency of the Ashanti Region, Samuel Awuni, is fighting for his life in hospital after stab wounds to his head and face.
Reports indicate he was stabbed twice in the head and beneath his eye by constituency treasurer, Adams Alhassan.
The incident happened shortly after a meeting of constituency officials with President John Mahama in Kumasi on Sunday, party sources tell Joy News.
It is not yet clear what instigated the attack on the NDC constituency chairman.
However, Constituency Vice Chairman, Abdul Karim, told Joy News Monday morning Samuel Awuni is responding to treatment but his situation remains critical.
Meanwhile, the alleged attacker, Adams Alhassan has been granted bail by police.
