Some supporters of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Chiana-Paga Constituency in the Upper East Region have issued an ultimatum to the National Executive Committee (NEC) to organise the parliamentary primary.
The group, Concerned Chiana/Paga NDC supporters argued the delay in the primary has brought a lot of challenges to the party in the Constituency.
At a news conference held in Kumasi, the group accused some national executives of the party of being behind scenes to impose a candidate on them.
Touching on some of the challenges the party is facing, spokesperson of the group, Kwaku Akeche, said the situation has created an opportunity for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate to have an unfair advantage.
“Delaying of the primary is causing much division in the party, NDC since the supporters of lawyer Rudolf Amega-Etego and Hon Abuga Pele keep campaigning among themselves,” he added.
He said the NDC lost control of the constituency to the NPP in 2008 as a result of some self-inflicted challenges. “It is happening through the same instances,” he said.
He disclosed the group is giving NEC three days to outline measures to organise the election else risk the anger of members.
“Our members in the constituency are already preparing themselves for the demonstration and just waiting for the three-day ultimatum given to NEC to elapse,” he said.
