The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has stated that he will remain in touch with the electorate because the party is grassroots-based.
He said staying in touch with the people would facilitate constant engagement to discuss the government’s programmes and provide feedback for government appointees to address.
Addressing members of the NDC, traditional leaders and residents at separate functions during his “Thank You” tour of the Volta Region, Mr Asiedu Nketiah expressed regret that digital communication via social media handles had come to substitute personal contact.
“For some time now, we’ve missed that opportunity because of WhatsApp and Facebook. We think that by communicating on social media, we are reaching everyone. But that is completely different,” he emphasised.
Mr Asiedu Nketiah’s tour took him to constituencies such as Hohoe, Afadzato South, Ho Central, Ho West, Akatsi North and Akatsi South, as part of efforts to reconnect the national leadership with the party’s base, strengthen internal structures and build unity ahead of the next general elections.
He said he was elected as a field chairman and not an “armchair chairman” and vowed to always be on the field with the electorate “to listen to your concerns, to assess whether what we are doing is effective and to ensure that we are improving our systems through honest feedback.”
Mr Asiedu Nketiah said his mission was to reinstitute outreach activities that were a hallmark of previous NDC administrations under former President Jerry John Rawlings and President John Mahama.
He explained that consistent grassroots engagement remained critical to sustaining good governance and ensuring that public policies truly serve the people.
“We must reinstitute the outreach programmes that kept us connected to the people,” he said, adding: “That’s how we can explain policies better, understand their impact on lives and make the necessary adjustments early.”
During his stop at Ho Central, he thanked the constituents for their unwavering support for the NDC and the government.
Asogli
During his meeting with the chiefs of Asogli State, the Awafiaga of Asogli State, Togbe Adzie Lakle Howusu XII, extended the blessings and good wishes of the people to Mr Asiedu Nketiah for thanking them after the party’s 2024 victory, while acknowledging his leadership and dedication to the governing NDC.
“May the gods of our land and the God Almighty above give you the strength, give you good health and protect you so that you will succeed in all that you do…
“We are so grateful that, as a mark of tradition, you didn’t come empty-handed. You’ve given us something.
We’ll hold a libation and let our forefathers know that you are still the Chairman of the great party and that they should protect you. And wherever you want to go, may you ascend to the highest pinnacle,” he stated.
On his part, the Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, said Mr Asiedu Nketiah’s visit to Ho and other constituencies as part of his ongoing nationwide Thank-you tour was apt.
He stressed the need to show gratitude and to assure the electorate that the NDC would not wait till the election year to come to them, canvassing for votes.
