The fate of 14 constituencies taking part in the NDC’s presidential and parliamentary primaries will be decided Sunday.

Voters in these constituencies were unable to cast their ballot in Saturday’s polls due to some irregularities in the voters’ register.

Some voters could not find their names in the register while others could not get voting materials in time to begin the process.

Out of 269 constituencies, the NDC was able to successfully complete elections in 256.

The remaining constituencies, which are in the Ashanti, Greater Accra and Western Regions are preparing to start voting on Sunday.

In the Western Region, voting was suspended due to what the party described as technical problems.

The Ningo-Prampram constituency has been a special bed of controversies.

The primaries were postponed after Sam George claimed his name was not in the biometric register along with more than 2,000 others.

But his claim was dismissed by the Greater Accra Regional Chair of the NDC Ade Coker who maintains, Sam George's name is in the register.

Joy News’ Kwetey Nartey is at the Ningo-Prampram constituency and reports that as at 9:00 am Sunday morning the Electoral Commission was now preparing to distribute electoral materials to the various polling stations. Elections were expected to begin at 7:00am.

Deputy Youth Organiser of the NDC, James Kofi Kpatakpa told Kwetey all is set for today’s polls in Ningo-Prampram. He said issues that arose during Saturday’s polls were  mere misunderstanding.

“During elections, tempers are very high so any slightest misinformation can inflame passions. There were no discrepancies in the polling station and the register, so far as national headquarters is concerned but because of the situation and the temperature at that time everybody would have done what one of the aspirants did yesterday”, Mr Kpatakpa said.

According to him, all aspirants and their representatives have been made to examine the voters register and have agreed on the register which will be used in Sunday’s polls.

He said the EC is prepared to conduct that elections and everything has been put in place to ensure that the elections on Sunday is devoid of any mishaps.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC wishes to announce to the party’s followers and the general public that the party has successfully completed voting in 256 constituencies in the on-going primaries.

Voting in the remaining fourteen (14) constituencies will take place tomorrow, Sunday 22 November.

Ashanti Region

2. Atwima Nwabiagya North
3. Manhyia South
4. Manhyia North
5. Asante Akyem North
6. Bosomtwe
7. New Edubiase
8. Agona
9. Tepa
10. Ejura
11. Ejisu

 

Greater Accra

1. Ningo Prampram
2. Three (3) polling stations (Ada)

 

Western Region

1. Two (2) polling station (Bia West)

Voting in these constituencies were suspended today due to technical problems

The party reiterates that, for the avoidance of doubt, voting starts 7am and closes 5pm. However per the Electoral Commission’s Law if prospective voters are in a queue as at 5pm, they should be allowed to cast their ballot.
