Police say a total of 69 flash points have been identified and will concentrate in providing a maximum security during Saturday’s parliamentary primaries of the ruling NDC.
According to Police, the Eastern Region has 6 flash points, Brong-Ahafo Region - 5, Volta Region - 9, Central Region - 3, Ashanti Region - 6, Northern Region - 7, Upper East Region - 5, Upper West - 6, Western Region - 7 and Greater Accra topping with the highest of 13 flash points.
Speaking Wednesday with Afia Pokua on Adom FM’s current affair program Burning Issues, Director General-Public Affairs Department of the Ghana Police Service, DCOP David Nenyi Ampah Bennin, said they have provided backups for these flashpoints.
He said Police have deployed over 7,000 personnel to monitor and ensure the smooth running of the elections.
“The police are prepared to provide security for the elections Saturday. Indeed we are working with the leadership of the party to ensure that the various flash points are given the necessary attention to forestall any occurrences”, he said
He however advised that people with intentions to cause mayhem during the primaries must shelve that plan, warning Police will deal with anybody found culpable of violent acts.
