The eastern regional executive committee of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) says it has suspended Bright Boateng, the party's communications director for Akuapem North for openly campaigning for an independent parliamentary candidate, Asiedu Offei.
A statement signed by the deputy regional secretary, Francis Annoh Dompreh said Mr. Bright Boateng went public on Monday, April 18, on Eastern 105.1 FM and Radio Mountain 96.1 FM to openly campaign for an independent candidate against the party’s elected parliamentary candidate, ostensibly preaching "Skirt and blouse".
Bright Obeng, who is popularly known as 'Abegah' accused the NDC candidate of lackadaisical posturing towards his campaign programs.
Below is the statement:
SUSPENSION OF PARTY EXECUTIVE
At an emergency Regional Executive Committee meeting at Koforidua today with Akuapim North (Akropong) Constituency executives present, a decision was taken to suspend the Akuapim North (Akropong) Constituency Communication Officer, Mr. Bright Boateng from the party for three(3) months effective 19th April 2016.
Mr. Bright Boateng, The Akuapem North Constituency Communication Officer, went public yesterday 18/04/16 specifically, on Eastern 105.1 Fm and Radio Mountain 96.1 to openly campaign for an Independent candidate against the party’s duly elected Parliamentary Candidate, ostensibly preaching "Skirt and blouse".
This is clearly in violation of Article 44 (b, c and e) of the party’s constitution.
We are by this release, informing our party members and the general public that Mr. Bright Boateng has been suspended from the party.
He, therefore, cannot represent the party on any platform and the media should NOT engage him in his capacity as a member of the party or a party communicator.
The matter has accordingly been referred to the party's Disciplinary Committee for the necessary disciplinary procedure to take place in line with Article 45(2) of the party's constitution.
Signed
Francis Annoh-Dompreh
Deputy Regional Secretary
