Mr Samuel Bannerman-Mensah, Director General of Ghana Education Service (GES) on Sunday said government had no intention to interfere in affairs of mission schools because it had confidence in them. However, he urged students of mission schools to let discipline be their hallmark because "education is not just about good grades" but what would distinct them from other students was excellent moral character. Mr Bannerman-Mensah made the observation at the induction Mr Koame Mieza Edjah, as new Headmaster of Mfantsipim School, in Cape Coast. He urged the students and staff to give Mr Edjah, the needed support to perform. Mr Ato Essuman, Member of Council of State and Chief Director of Ministry of Education, Science and Sports urged all stakeholders to contribute their quota to enhance the moral and academic achievements of the school. Reverend Dennis Joseph Boadu, Chaplain of the school, who inducted Mr Edjah into office in a sermon, urged him to be an exemplary leader and assist the school to excel in its endeavours. Mr Edjah, urged the students to obey school rules and appealed to parents to allow the authorities to instil discipline and good moral character in the students without any interference. Mr Edjah 54, an old boy with the 1968 Year Group, becomes the 33rd headmaster since the school's establishment in 1876. He taught Christian and Religious Studies at Fijai Secondary School in Sekondi where he was the Senior House Master and later rose to the rank of Assistant Headmaster (Academic). Mr Edjah was appointed Headmaster of Methodist Secondary School at Sekondi from 2004, until his appointment in May 2008 as Headmaster of Mfantsipim School.
