The National Identification Authority has received funding to continue its registration of residents of the Brong Ahafo Region.
Per the plans of the Authority, the registration exercise in the Brong Ahafo Region was scheduled for the latter part of June, 2010, then move to the Northern Region but the lack of funding compelled it to suspend the exercise.
The National Identification Authority has conducted registration in six regions, with four more the Brong Ahafo, Northern, Upper East and Upper West regions to go.
The Executive Secretary of the National Identification Authority Dr. William Ahadzie confirmed to Adom News, the registration exercise for people in the Brong Ahafo region will now take off in the first week of April, 2011.
Dr. Ahadzie told Adom News that financial challenges are stalling activities of the Authority including the issuance of identity cards to those who have already been registered.
The NIA on December 1, 2010, announced that distribution of ID cards would begin in Accra in January 2011, but the scheduled distribution was later called off.
Dr. Ahadzie hinted that a new date for the issuance of ID cards will be officially announced.
