The 2012 General elections in Ghana may well be contested by a united ‘Nkrumaist’ party.
The Convention People’s Party and the People’s National Convention, two of the relatively formidable Nkrumaist parties have agreed to begin unity talks which might lead to a political alliance.
Ladi Nylander chairman of the CPP confirmed the unity talks in an interview with Joy News, admitting that political alliance is the only way for the Nkrumaist parties to make any meaningful impact in the political landscape.
But similar talks in the past have hit a dead end with each of the parties contesting elections on its own and performing abysmally poor.
The PNC at the end of its emergency National Executive meeting agreed to champion the unity talks and hope its allies will accept the invitation.
Ladi Nylander welcomed the invitation saying the time has come for the CPP to marshal its forces.
Explaining the reason for the abysmal performances by the Nkrumaist parties, Mr Nylander said there is a perception that a vote for the Nkrumaist parties is a “wasted vote” and hope that perception will be a thing of the past if the parties come together.
