Some 22 members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have filed a petition against Dr Arthur Kennedy demanding disciplinary action against him.
Maverick Dr. Kennedy waded into the suspension of three top executives in the opposition party saying he has lost all respect for the leadership of the party’s flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo.
He has also publicly condemned the suspension of three officers of the party.
Paul Afoko, Kwabena Agyepong and Sammy Crabbe who were Chairman, General Secretary and Second Chairman respectively were suspended indefinitely from their positions for various misconduct.
In a tirade, Dr. Kennedy, a failed presidential candidate of the NPP, stated, “I do not think that he is a respectful democratic leader and someone who respects democracy…if you ask me from the bottom of my heart whether I respect Nana Akufo-Addo as a leader then I will say no, I don’t, I respect him as an elder of the party.”
This among several other comments by the medical doctor did not go down well with some supporters of the party who have now petitioned the Disciplinary Committee to sanction him.
Deputy General Secretary of the party Nana Obiri Boahen incensed by comments of Arthur Kennedy challenged him to form his own political party if he is not willing to join a party with persons supposedly below his class.
He however believed spending time to respond to the comments would amount to glorifying "mediocrity" and "irresponsibility of disgruntled members".
He told Joy News' Francis Abban on Top Story that even Dr. Arthur Kennedy "is not a fully fledged member of the party".
“We are sycophants, we are stooges, we are nitwits, we have agreed to be in the New Patriotic Party. He is a reasonable man, he is not sycophant, he is not a nitwit, he probably is the most reasonable person in this country, he has every right to form his political party.
“I have never come across a situation where a brilliant person like Dr. Arthur Kennedy, a reasonable man like Dr. Arthur Kennedy who wants to join a group of nitwits, sycophants like some of us,” he said.
Furthermore, Nana Obiri Boahene said the petition filed by the 22 supporters of the party would be investigated by the Disciplinary Committee and appropriate action taken.
He also described as “loose and unguarded”, comments made by former General Secretary of the NPP Nana Ohene Ntow that the suspension is factionalism gone mad.
He noted that the NPP is open to all to join but, “if you are not prepared to go by the rules of the game, if you are not prepared to go by the rules and regulations of the party, if you are not prepared to accept the dos and don’ts of the party, then fair enough you would be shown the exit.”
Meanwhile, Joy News is learning of a coordinated nationwide push to galvanising the NPP rank and file to back the suspension of the General Secretary and the second vice Chairman.
