A standoff has ensued between parliamentary aspirants contesting the Korle Klottey primary and executives of the NPP that has now left Sunday's scheduled primary in doubt.
The aspirants have joined forces in a bid to push the party to postpone the primary scheduled for Sunday.
JOY NEWS has intercepted a party letter that had agreed to hold the Primaries next week August 8, 2015 but a separate letter from the General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong moved the primaries forward to Sunday August 2, 2015.
This has incurred the wrath of the aspirants. Philip Addison, one of the candidates who was also the lawyer for the party during the 2012 election petition says the poll cannot come off on Sunday.
Frank Davies, former Greater President of the Ghana Bar Association who speaks for him said the party cannot proceed to organise an election on Sunday when many Christians would have to go to Church.
One of Mr. Addison’s challengers, Nii Adjei Tawiah says he will boycott the poll if the election is held tomorrow.
The third aspirant for the Korle Klottey primary, Nii Noi Nortey has not been available for comment but the Party insist the poll will come off regardless of the protests.
The NPP Greater Accra Regional Deputy General Secretary, Adam Sabo said the decision has already been taken and there will be no going back.
Meanwhile, the incumbent MP for Okaikoi South, Ahmed Arthur is expected to be acclaimed as his only challenger Vicky Bright withdrew from the race yesterday accusing the General Secretary of the NPP of failing to deal with fraudulent representation by the incumbent.
She also fired a stinging attack on the party's General Secretary accusing him of "presiding over wanton disregard for due process and propriety."
