Communication Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akomea has vehemently rejected accusations by deputy Minister of Energy, Alhaji Inusah Fuseini that MP for Fanteakwa, Kwabena Amankwa Asiamah made disparaging comments at Northerners in the country.
The Tamale Central MP who raised the concerns of 'tribal' insults on the floor of parliament on Wednesday, June 1, said the Fanteakwa MP refereed to Northerners as among others, people who lack the culture of property owning which makes them lazy and always wanting to be spoon-fed.
According to Hon. Fuseini, Kwabena Amankwa Asiamah who made the pained comments on Peace FM added that, the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) would fail because of the lackadaisical attitude of Northerners.
A transcript of the alleged comments said to have been made by Mr. Asiamah read: [Northerners] lack a culture of property owning which makes them very lazy; they always have to be spoon fed… All they do is to cut down trees and burn them into charcoal. Whenever you see a vehicle carrying charcoal, it is from the north. Why? They are always involved in tribal and community wars so the place is not stable; they are always on the move. Vandalism has also become a culture there .
Hon. Inusah Fuseini therefore called on parliament to refer the conduct of his colleague to the privileges committee. The submission generated a heated banter between the two sides of the house.
The Speaker asked to listen to the recording in order to make a determination.
But speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Wednesday, Nana Akomea argued that the transcription of what Hon. Asiamah is alleged to have said was inaccurate.
He said after listening to the tape, the transcription was not a true reflection of the comments made by the Fanteakwa MP.
The Director of Communications of NPP however stressed that the party would not engage in anything that would undermine the integrity and status of any tribe or group of people in the country.
Mr. Kwabena Bomfeh of the Convention Peoples Party, who was on the programme with the Fanteakwa MP, told Myjoyonline.com it cannot be true that the MP insulted any section of the society, explaining that even on the programme the MP was challenged to explain himself and he spoke in positive terms of the need to make the government's Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) work.
