The opposition New Patriotic Party will next week consider whether or not to go ahead with its Parliamentary Primaries scheduled for June 13, 2015.

Deputy General Secretary Nana Obiri Boahene has told JOYNEWS close to 30 out of 275 constituencies have applied for a postponement, as they try to recover from the current crisis facing the party.

The party’s flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo announced yesterday active political programmes remain suspended until after June 7^th when final Muslim funeral rite takes place for the late Upper East Chairman, Adams Mahama.

This has prompted fears the schedule for political activities might change.

Already some Parliamentary aspirants say they’ve spent enough resources on their campaign and want it to come off.

But Nana Obiri Boahene explained that some constituencies in the Western, Eastern and Brong Ahafo regions have petitioned the National Executive Committee for a postponement.

“In principle”, the petition has been accepted, Obiri Boahene said but noted a National Steering Committee would need to meet over the issue.

He argued that despite the crisis surrounding the political future of Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong who have been asked to step aside, it is possible that the primaries will still go on as scheduled.

This is because, it is the Electoral Commission who is responsible for supervising elections not the National Chairman or General Secretary.

“Let’s wait after 7 June”, after which the party will take a decision.
