The National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI) and the Rlg Institute of Technology (RIT) have agreed to an arrangement which will see trainees of the latter being certified by the NVTI.

The arrangement also seek to use ICT to enhance technical and vocational studies in the country.

A Memorandum of Understanding has since been signed between the national vocational certification body and the ICT trainer.

Under the collaboration, the Rlg Institute of Technology (RIT) will present their trainees under the skill training programmes to the NVTI for testing and subsequent certification.

The two institutions have been discussing three levels of certifications; Proficient, Certificate and Diploma which when successfully implemented, could see such trainees gain access to Polytechnic education.

The NVTI is a state institution with the mandate to oversee technical and vocational training and its certification. It is recognised by the United Nation’s International Labour Organisation (ILO) and its certificates are accepted globally under the ILO trade and vocation programmes.

The Rlg Institute of Technology has been in existence since 2002 and has trained thousands of people in ICT related courses at different levels in Ghana, Nigeria and the Gambia, using a state-of-the art training facilities.

The Executive Director of NVTI, Ing. Stephen Amponsah and the Head of the RIT, Mr Kwaku Nsiah Mensuoh initialled the MOU for their respective organisations.

They were hopeful the new partnership would facilitate the nation’s quest to have a highly skilled and motivated middle-level manpower.

The brief signing ceremony was witnessed by the Commissioner of Testing at NVTI, Ing. John Ocran.

Rlg Institute of Technology signed a similar MOU with the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) recently to promote ICT education at higher level.
