Deputy Information Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa’s candidacy for the ruling National Democratic Congress’ mandate to contest the North Tongu constituency parliamentary seat moved a step closer to realization Sunday when completed nomination forms were filed.
Led by Mr. Francis Doe, a former chairman of the North Tongu constituency and immediate past Volta regional organizer of the NDC, several jubilant supporters of the deputy minister joined in a procession to file the nominations at Battor.
Primaries are slated for January 21, 2012.
The completed forms were file on his behalf by Mr. Francis Doe and received by Mr. Michael Ladzaglah, the constituency chairman.
Clad in branded T-shirts and led by motorcycle riders, the procession that went through the streets of Battor was accompanied by large followers both young and old from the campaign office, constituency executives, campaign coordinators from traditional areas and NDC Delegates.
Mr. Francis Doe, also the campaign coordinator for Okudzeto Ablakwa said, it is about time the constituency got an energetic, dynamic and hardworking Parliamentarian whom the whole constituency can rely on to improve the lot of the people. He said he had no doubt that Mr. Okudzeto Ablakwa fits the bill.
He said the overwhelming support the campaign was receiving attests to the high approval rating of the Deputy Minister of Information who he insisted has excelled as a Deputy Minister. He called on all delegates to be resolute in their support and ensure that they vote massively for him.
"We know what he is capable of doing and if elections were to be held today, Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa will win by a landslide," he said.
Mr. Doe further called on the delegates to ensure a violent free election, expressing hope that other contestants would join the winner for a massive victory for the great NDC come 2012.
Okudzeto Ablakwa, the first to submit his nomination forms, faces eight other contestants for the North Tongu mandate of the party.
Mr. Francis Doe hinted that with the nomination forms filed, the way has now been cleared for an official campaign launch soon.
Okudzeto Ablakwa was away on official assignment in the Upper East and Ashanti Regions.
