Old students of Peki Government College of Education (Govconians) have appealed to government to help develop the school’s road network which has become a death trap for students and teachers of the school.
The roads network in the school have not seen any development for the past 60 years and have developed into gullies, becoming a death trap for about 1,000 students.
Members of the Old Govconians Association say the deplorable state of the road does not befit the status of a school which has trained several teacher trainees over the past 60 years.
According to the national president of the Association, Edem Yao Deikumah, who is also a governance expert and a lecturer at the Evangelical Presbyterian University College in Ho, efforts to get authorities to do something about the bad road network has yielded no results for the past years.
Mr Deikumah made the appeal to government and the Ministry of Roads when the association donated 20 computers and accessories to the school as part of giving back to their alma mater.
He said, it was urgent for the college to have a good ICT centre which was a request from the school for the establishment of basic education in ICT as part of the curricular.
“In this age a teacher without the knowledge of ICT, how will they teach ICT well? The teachers need to be equipped in ICT and it is our contribution to education,” Mr Deikumah said.
The Association has also built the fence wall for the school and is currently constructing a state-of-the-art cafeteria.
President of the Association called on other old students home and abroad, citizens of Peki and well wishers to also contribute their quota to the development of the school.
The headmaster of the school, Mr John Baako said he was grateful to the Association for their quick response when the college contacted them to help with computers.
He said, it has become very necessary to run courses in ICT in the college and has called on others to emulate the example of the old Govconians.
