The Oti Regional Education Directorate has denied allegations of an examination malpractice plot in the ongoing 2023 West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) by two schools in the region.
This follows a social media write-up by a former NAGRAT President, Mr. Kwame Alorvi alerting of the commercialisation of the WASSCE by some teachers and headmasters in a grand scheme to aid their students cheat in the ongoing examination.
According to the Directorate, no such scheme or an attempt to engage in such behaviour has been uncovered by the Directorate.
“The Regional Education Directorate is monitoring the examination process and such plans to cheat, or signs of cheating have not come to the attention of Regional Management,” it said.
It reaffirmed its dedication to an examination malpractice-free examination while eschewing any attempts to undermine the integrity of the ongoing examinations in a statement signed by Raymond Kubuafor, the Regional PRO.
“We strongly denounce any actions that undermine the credibility of our examinations and compromise the principles upon which education is built. It is imperative to emphasise that we do not condone, nor will we ever condone any activities that perpetuate examination malpractice for any reason. We firmly believe in the pursuit of knowledge founded on honesty, diligence, hard work and ethical conduct,” it stated.
Meanwhile, the Directorate has launched investigations into the allegations “and will make its findings available to the appropriate authorities.”
“Anyone who may be found guilty of engaging in any form of misconduct/malpractice will face appropriate disciplinary action per the GES code of conduct for staff,” it added.
