A non-governmental organisation, Pencils of Promise (PoP), has constructed the 200th classroom block in its 11 years of operation in Ghana.
This marks a milestone operation of the organisation which has contributed significantly to improving educational infrastructure, sanitation, and building capacity of teachers in three regions in Ghana.
The milestone was climaxed with the commissioning of a 3-unit classroom structure constructed for the Gbi Wegbe E.P Basic School in the Hohoe Municipality, which also counts as the 600th classroom block constructed by PoP worldwide.
The classroom block furnished with tables and chairs, ceiling fans and lights would house the kindergarten department which previously occupied a dilapidated wooden structure.
Sanitation facilities were also constructed for the school to enhance hygiene in the school community.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Country Director of Pencils of Promise, Freman Gobah said his outfit is enthused about the contributions it had made in the education sector over the years.
He explained that their projects tailored to ensure the delivery of quality education, have impacted over 70,000 learners in 200 communities in their operational regions, namely Volta, Eastern, and Oti.
He added that some 2,000 teachers have also benefited from their capacity-building programmes and extended appreciation to their donors for the financial support.

Mr. Gobah reiterated Pencils of Promise’s aim of continuous collaboration with the government and other stakeholders to uplift the country’s standard of education.
“We want to work with the Ghana government. We want to work with the district assemblies so that our impact will be felt in every community in this country”, he said.
The Hohoe Municipal Chief Executive, Daniel Noble Awume lauded Pencils of Promise on their commitment to improving infrastructure in the education sector, promising the assembly’s unflinching support.
He entreated the management of the school to play their respective roles to ensure the objective of providing the classroom block is achieved.
He indicated that the assembly would continue to implement programmes to complement efforts in enhancing education.
“The key areas of focus include ensuring equitable access and participation at all levels, promoting inclusive education, ensuring a safe and supportive environment, strengthening schools' management system, ensuring sustainable financing, and promoting literacy and lifelong learning, among others”, he said.
The Gbi Wegbe Divisional Chief, Togbe Keh XII appreciated the contribution of Pencils of Promise to enhancing the human resources of his community by providing the classroom block.
He entreated parents to take a keen interest in the education of their children by investing and supervising their studies and progress.
