The Chiefs and people of Ho in the Asogli State have paid homage to the late Togbega Kwaku Ayim IV, Paramount Chief of Ziavi, with a symbolic Asafo performance.
This depicts the unflinching relation between the two traditional areas, since their settlement at the present location in the Ho Municipality of the Volta Region.
This was after they fled from the rulership of a dictator and draconian ruler of Notsie in Togo, King Agorkorli, during the pre-colonial era.
The asafo performance of the Asogli State saw the playing of the sacred drum, Adawatram, coupled with singing and dancing to war-themed songs exhibiting their bravery.
Under the leadership of their WarLord, Togbe Lakle Howusu, they held processions through the streets of Ziavi Dzogbe, displaying cultural dexterity to the administration of onlookers.
The asafo performance was iced with a slice of magical performance by the warriors, climaxing the day’s activities with the firing of musketry at the Akpevi Blorme, the gathering point for the Royal Akpevi Clan.
Below are some scenes of the special customary rites, performed to honor and bid farewell to Ewe Chiefs.
