The Volta Regional Communication team of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has undertaken a monitoring exercise across four districts of the Volta Region to assess the status of ongoing and completed development projects in education, health, roads, markets and other sectors.

The exercise covered the Agortime-Ziope, Ketu South, Ketu North and Anloga districts, where the team inspected dozens of projects at various stages of implementation.

According to a statement issued by the Volta Regional Communication Officer of the NDC, Kafui Agbleze, the exercise was intended to provide regional and constituency communication teams with first-hand information on government interventions, verify the status of projects and improve communication on their expected impact on communities.

Mr Agbleze, his deputy, Del Bright and constituency communication officers were joined by members of the respective constituency communication teams during the monitoring exercise.

Agortime-Ziope

In the Agortime-Ziope District, the team inspected projects in the education, health and economic infrastructure sectors, including completed facilities, ongoing projects and projects described by the party as legacy interventions.

In education, a three-unit classroom block with an office and store at Adzorvi and a two-unit classroom block with ancillary facilities at Takuve have been completed.

A three-unit classroom block with an office and store at Obemla has reached the roofing stage, while another three-unit classroom block with an office and store at Akpokope was identified as a legacy project.

The team also inspected three health projects, including a Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound with semi-detached nurses' quarters at Datsiedu, which has reached the roofing stage.

Another CHPS compound with semi-detached accommodation for three nurses at AGOSEC Top in Kpetoe is also at the roofing stage, while a CHPS compound with nurses' quarters at Agorhokpo, described as a legacy project, has been completed.

The team further visited the constituency's 24-Hour Economy market, which is under construction.

According to the Regional Communication team, the market is intended to expand economic opportunities, improve trading infrastructure and provide a more conducive environment for traders and businesses in the constituency.

Ketu South

In Ketu South, attention was drawn to the ongoing Phase II of the Blekusu Sea Defence Project, which is intended to protect coastal communities that have suffered repeated tidal wave destruction and seawater intrusion.

According to the NDC communication team, the project has already resulted in the reclamation of several kilometres of land, while some areas previously affected by seawater entering homes have experienced relief from the problem.

The team said residents who interacted with its members expressed satisfaction with the progress of the project and the protection it was providing to affected communities.

The reclaimed land is expected to be used for social amenities and other facilities for communities along the affected coastline.

Other projects inspected in Ketu South included the ongoing Tokor-Ho Road project and a 24-hour Economy market under construction.

The team also identified a proposed modern market at Aflao, which was yet to commence at the time of the monitoring exercise.

In education, six-unit classroom blocks at Avoeme Basic School and Akaglakorpe have been completed, while a vocational training centre has also been completed.

A CHPS compound and nurses' quarters at Dogbekope were under construction.

The communication team said regular monitoring was important in promoting accountability and transparency while ensuring that the public received accurate information on the progress and impact of development projects.

Ketu North

The monitoring exercise in Ketu North identified a significant concentration of projects in the education sector, alongside health and public service infrastructure.

Among the education projects inspected was a six-unit classroom block with an office and store at Tadzewu.

At Afife Senior High School, the team inspected boys' and girls' dormitories as well as a one-storey classroom block and a 20-seater toilet facility for male and female students.

Other projects included a three-unit classroom block at Koeyiborkope, being undertaken in collaboration with Pencils of Promise, and a dormitory facility at Dzosec.

The team also inspected a kindergarten block at Fiagbedu School in Dzodze, and six-unit classroom blocks at Tove-Dzodze, Deme-Dzodze and Ehi.

At Kave-Dzodze, another kindergarten block is being constructed in collaboration with Pencils of Promise.

Six-unit classroom blocks at Tsiyinu, Afife, and Afife RC Basic School were also among the education infrastructure inspected.

In the health sector, the team visited a CHPS compound with staff quarters at Adzoatsi and another CHPS compound at Tsiyinu in Afife.

The newly constructed National Health Insurance Scheme office at Dzodze was also inspected as part of the public service infrastructure component of the exercise.

The Regional Communication team said the projects were expected to improve teaching and learning conditions, expand access to primary healthcare and strengthen the delivery of public services in the constituency.

It said the monitoring formed part of efforts to equip communication officers with information on projects being undertaken under President John Dramani Mahama's "Resetting Agenda".

Anloga District

In the Anlo Constituency, the Regional Communication team and its constituency counterparts identified 16 projects covering education, health, accommodation, roads and sports infrastructure.

The education projects included the construction of a two-unit kindergarten block with ancillary facilities at Tegbi and a Science Laboratory Complex at Anlo Senior High School (ANSECO).

The proposed science facility comprises six specialised laboratories, offices and storerooms covering Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Agriculture, Integrated Science and Information and Communication Technology.

Another two-unit kindergarten classroom block was identified at ANSECO, while the team also inspected the re-roofing of a six-classroom block at Agorve.

Other education infrastructure included a three-unit classroom block at Akplorwotorkor and another three-unit classroom block at Sodzi.

In the health sector, projects included the construction of a CHPS compound at Agorve, the provision of a Free Primary Healthcare Container at Srorgboe and the construction of a CHPS compound with a two-bedroom nurses' bungalow at Dzita.

Accommodation projects inspected included a teachers' bungalow at ANSECO comprising 12 two-bedroom apartments.

Two-bedroom nurses' bungalows at ANSECO and Agorve were also identified, alongside a two-unit chamber-and-hall apartment attached to the classroom project at Sodzi.

Road infrastructure projects included the Hotorwovi Road at Atiehefe and the construction of a 10-kilometre road at Kome/Alakple.

The team also inspected an AstroTurf project at Hogbe Park as part of sports infrastructure development in the district.

According to the communication team, the 16 projects were at different stages of implementation, with some completed and others still under construction.

Mr Agbleze's team said the wider monitoring exercise across the four districts was aimed at establishing the location, status and progress of development interventions rather than relying solely on reports about their implementation.

The Regional Communication team said it would continue monitoring projects across the Volta Region to provide the public with information on their progress and expected benefits.

It maintained that first-hand verification would help communication officers provide more accurate accounts of development interventions while strengthening public awareness, transparency and accountability surrounding projects being implemented in communities across the region.
