The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced power outages affecting parts of the Greater Accra and Volta regions due to damaged electricity infrastructure and emergency maintenance works.
In the Accra West Region, ECG said an outage affecting Sowutuom and surrounding communities was caused by broken high-tension poles at Sowutuom.
The affected areas include Sowutuom Mambo, Glorious Jesus, Ablekuma Fanmilk, Ablekuma Abease, God First, Roman Park, Piteo Junction, Vicollis and Olebu Melcom, as well as adjoining communities.
According to ECG, its engineers are working to repair the damaged infrastructure and restore electricity supply to the affected areas.
The company did not provide a specific restoration time for the Sowutuom outage but said its technical teams were attending to the fault.
ECG has also announced two separate emergency maintenance exercises in the Volta Region for Thursday, August 13.
The first exercise is scheduled to take place between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm to enable engineers to work on a fault affecting electricity supply.
Communities expected to experience the temporary outage include Sokode Ando, Sokode Gbagble, parts of Sokode Gborgame and surrounding areas.
A second emergency maintenance exercise will take place on the same day from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
The affected areas are Payin, Dzodze, Ziope, Akporkope, Agortime, Kpetoe and surrounding communities.
ECG said the planned interruptions are necessary to allow its engineers to carry out work on faults affecting the electricity network.
The company apologised for the inconvenience caused by the Sowutuom outage and the scheduled maintenance exercises, and said the work was being undertaken to address faults and restore reliable electricity supply.
