Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has slammed government for what he calls the poor handling of the pension fund agitation by public workers.
He said his party is extremely worried about the opaque manner in which the issues are being handled and the distresses workers are being put through.
He made this known when executives of the National Democratic Party (NDP) paid a courtesy call on him at his residence in Nima.
A strike action by public sector workers has entered its second week following the postponement of negotiations between the workers and government to next week.
The workers are on an indefinite strike over issues relating to the management of their second tier pension fund.
Even with a suit hanging over their necks, the workers have refused to cancel the strike until their demands are appropriately addressed.
But Nana Akufo-Addo says the workers reserve the right to demand the security of their end of service benefits.
According to the flagbearer, the progress of the nation depends greatly on satisfying the needs of its citizens and that without it, more of such agitations by public sector workers will occur.
He advised government to be proactive in dealing with the issue and that even though the country has a lot of potential it will need the contributions of all citizens in order to develop, and that it should work to ensure a favourable deal for workers in the country.
