Let's face it, old women are often more safety conscious. So when they dare to cross the dangerous N1 Highway then there definitely must be something wrong with the Highway.
From February 2012 when the late President Atta Mills opened the highway to December, 2013, 489 accidents have been recorded on the road with 350 people sustaining severe injuries.
It has claimed an estimated 70 lives.
The problem peadestrians have is that foot brigdes are wrongly placed. You need to walk a distance just to cross it to the other side. After calculating the risks, many appear to choose crossing the road without the aid of footbridges.
As residents of the city battle the dangers on the road, it has emerged that the original design of the highway has not been fully implemented, the consultants for the projects have confirmed.
