Parliament in January this year, approved the report of the Prof Yaa Ntiamoah-Baidu-led Committee recommending emoluments for the Executive, Judiciary and Legislature, as well as a recommendation that the First Lady and the wife of the Vice President should be paid salary.
Some Ghanaians have expressed varied opinions about the inclusion of the presidential spouses in Article 71 office holders to be paid as Cabinet Ministers.
This has led to some Members of Parliament calling for an overhaul of the arrangement, saying it is unsustainable.
According to MP for North Tongu, Article 71 office holders include the President, Vice President, Ministers, MPs, Heads of Independent Commissions and senior members of the Judiciary.
On that note Joy News' Ayisha Ibrahim tonight hosted the following guests on PM Express; MP for North Tongu and Ranking Member of Foreign Affairs Committee, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Executive Director of African Centre for Parliamentary Affairs, Dr Rashid Draman and Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Ghana, Prof Ransford Gyampo as they discuss, “Emoluments for Article 71 holders: Time for an overhaul?” at 9.00 pm.
