Police in the Greater Accra have arrested 15 people they suspect are behind the printing of fake drivers license to unsuspecting victims.

The suspects are believed to have in their possession a software capable of printing licenses similar to the ones being printed by the Drivers and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA).

The suspects were arrested by the police, Monday, Public Relations Officer of the DVLA, Kwaku Afari disclosed to Joy News.

He said the suspects were arrested at the Tema and Accra offices of the DVLA.

According to him, the suspects are still being screened by the police who will soon make public, details of the arrest.

He made the disclosure on Joy News while discussing recent development at the DVLA in which the Attorney General is ordering a refund of 15.5million cedis she said was overpaid to Foto-X, a company contracted to print drivers licenses.

The AG maintains the contract awarded to Foto-X and the payments thereof were fraudulent.

The DVLA has since abrogated the contract with Foto-X despite protest by the printing company.

The fraudulent transactions notwithstanding, some members of the public are complaining about delays in acquiring new driver's licenses they applied for.

But Kwaku Afari told Joy News the Authority is on course with its mandate.

According to him, the Authority has cleared all the backlog by printing as many as 250,000 licenses.

He admitted the Authority suffered a minor hitch when it abrogated the contract with Foto-X. He added that there was a breakdown of equipment at the Authority which affected the production of the licenses but said all those anomalies have been resolved.

He advised persons with genuine problems with license acquisitions to come to the Authority.
