Police in the Easter Region have confirmed the arrest of some armed robbers who attacked and robbed a filling station at Apersua a suburb of Nkurakan.
According to Joy News’ Kofi Siaw, the police got a tip about the operations of the suspects and followed up to carry out the arrest.
The suspects had damaged security lights at the fuel station before carrying out their act.
According to reports, they had made away with some GH¢3000
Kofi Siaw also reported that they assaulted the security man and the fuel attendant on duty.
“…they beat them up and injured them before robbing the station”, he told the News Desk show on the Joy News Channel on MultiTV.
“According to the police commander [New Juaben, Chief Supt. Cosmos Allan], the victims were rushed to the Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua and they have been responding to treatment,” he added.
Some armed robbers, numbering about four have also attacked some homes and a school in Okorase, in the Akuapem North District near the Eastern Regional Capital, about three days ago and though the police were called, they escaped before they [police] arrived.
“…but Thursday we got information from the police that they have arrested three of the four suspects who robbed the homes”, the reporter added.
The government and the leadership of the Police Service have taken some steps to arrest the recent crime wave being experienced in the capital and other cities.
Information Minister, Mustapha Hamid on Thursday addressed a press conference to announce some actions taken by the government.
Among other things, he advised businesses like banks who deal with cash to install CCTV cameras around their premises, in time “the government will link all these cameras to one database to better monitor and help in surveillance,” he said.
The police service also announced a reshuffling in the commanding force of the service on Thursday.
Major positions such as Director General in charge of operations were reshuffled.

As of Friday morning, Greater Accra alone had recorded at least 92 cases of armed robbery in 2018.
