A 26-year-old Nigerian, who allegedly murdered a woman and her daughter in Nigeria and fled to Ghana, has been arrested at Akwatia by the Eastern South Regional Police Command.
Victor Benjamin Fejeminrokum was arrested after police in Ghana intercepted a viral video alleging that he had abducted and murdered a lady who worked with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and her daughter at Abeokuta in Ogun State, Nigeria.
A statement issued and signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) David Fianko-Okyere, Public Relations Officer, Eastern South Region, said the suspect was wanted by the Nigerian Police but fled to Ghana and hid among friends at Akyem Wenchi, a suburb of Akwatia in the Eastern Region.
“On receipt of the information that the suspect was hiding in his friend’s house at Akwatia, the Eastern South Regional Police Command quickly deployed an intelligence-led operation to arrest the suspect at his hideout at Akyem Wenchi,” the statement said.
“The suspect is currently in police custody, and arrangements are underway to hand him over to the Nigerian authorities,” it said.
“We entreat the public to report any suspicious movement of any person or group of persons in their communities to help prevent crime.”
The statement assured the public of sustained operations to deal with criminal activities within the jurisdiction.
