Ghana has reiterated its dedication to improving governance and accountability in the diamond industry as the country hosts a Kimberley Process Certification Scheme review visit in Accra.
The visit aims to evaluate the nation’s adherence to international standards and promote responsible trade practices within the sector.
Sammy Gyamfi, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), outlined reforms the government has implemented to strengthen oversight across the diamond value chain.

These measures include enhanced inspection and verification procedures, more robust internal controls, and targeted training for personnel engaged in the sector.
“The reforms we have put in place reflect Ghana’s commitment to continuous improvement and responsiveness to global expectations regarding the responsible diamond trade,” Mr. Gyamfi said at the opening of the review visit.

He added that the government values constructive feedback from the visiting team to further enhance institutional frameworks and sector governance.
The ongoing review involves comprehensive briefings on Ghana’s legal and regulatory framework, the effectiveness of internal control systems, and collaboration with law enforcement and industry stakeholders.

Mr. Gyamfi also highlighted Ghana’s broader role within the Kimberley Process, noting that the country currently serves as Vice Chair and is preparing to assume the Chairmanship in 2027.

“The aim is to ensure that the Kimberley Process remains relevant, forward-looking, and effective in preventing conflict diamonds from entering the legitimate global market,” he emphasised, underlining Ghana’s commitment to inclusive dialogue, reforms, and consensus-building among participating nations.
