Two policemen who hired a taxi to chase an Urvan bus whose driver refused to stop when they flagged it down knocked down and killed a 19-year-old girl at Koforidua at the weekend.
The body has been deposited at the morgue of the Eastern Regional Hospital, Koforidua.
An eyewitness, Mr Frank Cobleh, said the taxi that was being used by the police officers attempted to overtake a vehicle by the right and in the process hit the deceased who was standing by the roadside.
The policemen took the girl, identified as Adwoa Letitia, to the Eastern Regional Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The two policemen told the medical authorities at the hospital that another vehicle knocked the girl down and drove away and they brought the girl to the hospital.
But a media personnel, Mr Annor Domprey who was at the scene of the accident with other eye witnesses, followed up to the hospital told the medical authorities that it was the taxi cab of the police that knocked down the girl.
When contacted, the Eastern Regional Commander of Police, Mr Felix Asare-Darko said information available to him indicated that the two policemen were on their way to Adawso market to buy foodstuffs when the taxi cab on which they were travelling hit and killed a girl.
He said the police were investigating the incident.
