Police have raided the research office of the New Patriotic Party in Kokomlemel, Accra where officials are conducting forensic audits of the 2012 elections.
Boakye Agyarko, campaign manager for the New Patriotic Party flagbearer told Joy News police and soldiers in full riot controlled gear "manhandled" the NPP officers.
He described the raid as “senseless and highly provocative.”
The raid follows a directive by the president John Mahama to the security personnel to be on red alert after scores of NPP supporters allegedly attacked members of the governing party and media men.
Deputy Information Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa said the government will not countenance any act of lawlessness.
The armed security personnel were reported to have raided the office around 1800 GMT.
According to Boakye Agyarko, the combined team of police and soldiers claim they were looking for ammunition stashed in the building.
After a thorough search, he said the police found nothing.
He said the raid is alarming and wondered why such a thing will be happening in a democratic country like Ghana.
Dozens of NPP supporters have also trooped to the area to witness the raid.
The NPP campaign manager advised the IGP to proceed cautiously.
He said such indiscriminate use of power will not augur well for the country.
