The Inspector General of Police (IGP) has given the assurance that his outfit is ready to provide protection for Organised Labour if it goes ahead with its intended demonstrations.

John Kudalor says so long as the police have adequate notice and all the right processes are followed by Organised Labour, the protests would go on peacefully. 

The Trades Union Congress (TUC) has announced series of industrial actions, including strikes and demonstrations to press home their demands for a decrease in the recent utility price hikes.

They are also demanding that the recently introduced Energy Sector Levy which has caused a sharp increase in the prices of petroleum products by over 28 percent, be scrapped.

Speaking to the media, the IGP John Kudalor stressed that Organised Labour has a right to demonstrate.

“They have nothing against the police, they are there to exercise their right about something they are not happy with.

"If they do it within the ramifications of the law, we shall protect them and ensure that they have a peaceful demonstration,” he added.

He assured that the police is not planning in any way to disrupt the protest and there is no cause to be alarmed.

“I am sure they are matured and they will conform to the rules that we have agreed upon,” he said.
