A Governance Studies Lecturer at the Evangelical Presbyterian University in Ho, Edem Dey Kuma, says a leadership crisis is militating against development and democracy in the country.

Mr Kuma says it is important for appointing authorities to ensure that budding politicians are taken through proper leadership training.

“How can you be a good minister if you don’t know the functions of ministers? How you can be a chief executive if you don’t know what decentralisation is? How can you be an MP if you don’t know about the duties of the legislature? he quizzed.

He said there was the need for a political culture that offers orientation on the right processes in enhancing democracy.

“Today we all hugging democracy but how do we consolidate democratic practices in a state if we don’t have the political culture that will insist that people understand the principle of democracy?” he asked.
